Community Theme Song

Community is a show that didn’t start out being very funny. Either I got used to it or it got funnier as the episodes went on. I’ve heard the line “I can’t count the reasons I should stay” on the radio recently, and I’ve posted lyrics and songs from community theme songs.

Have you ever wondered who sings the theme song for Community? “At Least It Was Here” by the American indie rock band The 88 is the theme song for the show. The band first put out the song on their 2008 album, Not Only… But Also. It was also added to the show’s official first-season soundtrack, called Community, in September of this year (Music from the Original Television Series).

I first heard about The 88 on a HIMYM episode. Even though I didn’t consider them to be a fake band, it’s great to hear that they’ve had some kind of success in the mainstream.

People often think that “Good Ol’ Fashion Nightmare” by Matt & Kim is the theme song. The music was played in pilots and commercials. It’s not, however, part of the music.

Here is the start of the show, which includes the song “At Least It Was Here.”

Lyrics

[Intro]

Give me your hands

Show me the door

I cannot stand

To wait anymore

Somebody said

Be what you’ll be

We could be old, and cold, and dead on the sea.

[Chorus]

But I love you more than words can say

I can’t count the reasons I should stay.

[Verse 1]

Give me some rope

Tie me to dream

Give me the hope to run out of steam

Somebody said it could be here

We could be roped up, tied up, dead in a year.

[Chorus]

I can’t count the reasons I should stay

One by one they all just fade away.

[Bridge]

Iʼm tied to the wait-and-sees

Iʼm tired of that part of me

That makes up a perfect lie

To keep us between

But hours turn into days

So watch what you throw away

And be here to recognize

Thereʼs another way.
